About Stamp
On 1st July, 1947, the eightieth anniversary of Canadian Confederation, this stamp was issued to commemorate the passage of the Canadian Citizenship Act. This act, a development of great importance in Canadian constitutional history, gives a clear and simple definition of Canadian citizenship. The act also provides an underlying community of status for all peoples of Canada, binding them together as Canadians.
Canadian Citizenship
In the design, Canadian citizenship is personified by the figure of a youth standing with upraised hand and arm on the northern portion of the Western Hemisphere. The geographical outline of Canada is broadly indicated at his feet.
