This special issue 5¢ stamp is being released to emphasize the importance of reducing the needless waste caused by preventable fired. The postage stamp is being issued in support of National Fire Prevention Week. The new postage stamp will be printed by the Canadian Bank Note Company, Ottawa and was designed by Arthur Price of Ottawa.
Each year fires in Canada result in the loss of hundreds of lives, as well as millions of dollars in property value and disruption of economic activities. Active interest on the part of the public in the elimination of fire hazards will greatly reduce this unnecessary loss of life and property.
