About Stamp

This year's Christmas stamp feature angels, an integral part of the Christmas story. "And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God... To a virgin... and the virgin's name was Mary... And the angel said unto her, 'Fear not, Mary: for thou has found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus'." So the gospel according to St. Luke describes the annunciation. The word "angel" derives from a Greek word meaning "messenger". May cultures and religions recognize these beings and believe them to mediate between the spiritual and material worlds. The Christmas stamps were created by Toronto graphic designer Theo Dimson. Symbolizing the participation of angels in the Christmas story, the three vertical stamps together form the left, centre and right panels of a triptych. The fourth stamp, in a horizontal format, designed for the special Christmas postage rate, features a carol-singing angel.
