The Parliament Buildings of Canada are featured on new definitive postage stamps designed by Montreal graphic artist Rolf Harder. The 36¢ definitive illustrates a rear view of the Centre Block of the Parliament Buildings. The Parliamentary Library appears in the foreground. Opened in 1876, the library was the only building spared when fire destroyed the Centre Block in 1916. An iron door separated it from the flames sweeping the remainder of the building. Reconstruction of the Centre Block was completed in 1927 with the inauguration of the Peace Tower.
