About Stamp

Engineering is defined as an application of science and mathematics by which properties of matter and sources of energy are made useful to people. Using such skills, engineers have helped to unite Canada physically and to transform it into a thriving industrial power. The Engineering Institute of Canada celebrates its 100th anniversary in 1987. The Institute was founded by an act of Parliament as The Canadian Society of Civil Engineers. The organization serves engineers as their learned society, encourages the acquisition and exchange of professional knowledge, promotes engineering research, and maintains the honour and dignity of the profession. The engineering stamp was designed by Les Holloway, Richard Kerr and Nita Wallace of the Toronto firm Design Source. The design symbolizes the multiplicity of disciplines in which engineering operates, especially its involvement with the high technology of the future.
