      prices in CAD

        * Notes about these prices:

          - They are not based on catalogue values but on current dealer and auction listings. The reason for this is that catalogues tend to over-value stamps.

          - They are average prices. The actual value of your stamp may be slightly above or below the listed value, depending on the overall condition of your stamp. Use these prices as a guide to determine the approximate value of your stamps.

      To mark the opening of the new Canadian Museum of Civilization building, Canada Post Corporation will issue the second stamp in the Masterpieces of Canadian Art series. This year's is a 50-cent commemorative showing a magnificent Ceremonial Frontlet, a headpiece worn by chiefs of the Tsimshian west coast Indians. Made of wood with abalone shell and black stone inlay, the frontlet is part of the Canadian Museum of Civilization's collection. This stamp repeats the general design created by Montreal graphic designer Pierre-Yves Pelletier for the Masterpieces of Canadian Art series with last year's issue of The Young Reader. The printing of these stamps is quite complex; they are foil stamped in two colours and printed in lithography in six colours.
