Three new stamps designs have been added to the popular Fruit Trees of Canada series. This oval hard-shelled nut is enclosed in a greenish sheath, densely bristled towards the base, ending in a long slender beak. Difficult to harvest because of their hardness, natives used to bury these hazelnuts in mud until the outside rotted. Then they pounded the nuts with berries and animal fat to make cake.
