Mount Robson Park, British Columbia

The diverse, cross-country beauty of the nation is depicted on 12 provincial and territorial parks stamps to be issued for Canada Day 1993. The British Columbia provincial park derives its name from Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies. Some 217,200 hectares of snow-capped mountains, glacier-fed lakes, rivers and streams, canyons and valleys provide one of the most impressive sights of magnificent beauty within the province. Created in 1913, the park is located on the eastern edge of BC, bordering on the Centennial Divide and Alberta's Jasper National Park. Various species of wildlife inhabit the park including mountain goats, grizzlies, moose, mule deer, caribou and elk. More than 170 species of birds also make it their home. Migrating Pacific salmon of the Fraser River mark the termination of their travels at Rearguard Falls. The Fraser parallels and is crossed by the highway through much of the park. Experienced climbers try their skills on Mount Robson, while others are quite content hiking the numerous wilderness trails and enjoying the exciting outdoor-adventure vacation that the park offers. The stamp designs convey the feeling that the artist visited these spectacular locations and was awed by their beauty.
