Three new stamps are being added to the medium value Fruit Trees of Canada series to coincide with new postal rates for USA, second step domestic and international rate stamps. The apricot resembles a small peach or a fuzzy yellow plum, but this Asian native is actually more closely related to the almond which shares its love of warm summers and a tendency to bloom early. Grown mostly in the Okanagan valley of British Columbia, the Westcot Apricot's soft orangy-yellow fruit can be eaten fresh or cured. Although it blooms earlier than most other fruit trees, it offers a better bud hardness than the others. Its large white flowers can be seen in very early spring and the Westcot is highly recommended by experts over other Canadian varieties.
