To commemorate the 100-year anniversary of golf in Canada, five new stamps will be issued on June 6, 1995. This year marks the centennial of both the Royal Canadian Golf Association (RCGA) and the Canadian Amateur Championship. The five different stamp designs in the 10-stamp booklet feature some of Canada's oldest and most prestigious golf courses, as well as Canadians who have made significant contributions to the game. In 1972, Rod McIssac, president of Great Northern Capital Corporation Limited, approached RCGA president Richard Grimm. Great Northern had a huge parcel of land near Oakville which included a semi-private golf club. After several meetings, it was agreed that the company would spend millions of dollar converting the existing Glen Abbey into a championship course. The course would be open to the public, designed for spectators, and the RCGA would hold the Open there for 20 years.
