Looking at the results, we'd have to say that the designers of our fourth set of Historic Land Vehicles stamps have taken as much care with their designs as the inventors of the vehicles did with theirs! Tiit Telmet, Cameron Wykes and Joseph Gault have rendered accurate and detailed stamps depicting an early electric carriage to a modern logging truck. The stamps reveals the styling and performance features that won the respect and loyalty of commercial custumers across the country. It was 1935 and beer advertising was prohibited. The Labatt Brewing Company needed to grab public attention and save rail costs. Through the White Motor Company, Labbat's commissioned Alexis deSakhnoffsky, designer of the 1933 Nash, to conceive a tractor-trailer that would both haul huge loads and serve as travelling billboard. He designed four Streamliner, each one better than the last. The 1947 Streamliner's curved corners and horizontal lines were impressive. The vehicles moved beer across Ontario until 1955, when Labatt's sold off its Streamliner fleet and brought an end to an era.
