About Stamp

Recognized as a Canadian symbol since 1700, the maple leaf was formally adopted as a national emblem in 1860 for use in festivities linked to the visit of the Prince of the Wales. In 1868, it appeared on the coats of arms granted to Québec and Ontario and, by the early 1920's, adorned Canada's coat of arms.

This year, the maple leaf will appear on four new definitives: a domestic-rate ($0.46) ATM issue, a second-step domestic-rate ($0.73) stamp, a U.S.-rate ($0.55) stamp, and an international-rate ($0.95) stamp. The international-rate stamp features a montage of warm colours: a green maple leaf, gold border and orange background. The new Maple Leaf OFDC's were cancelled in Ottawa.
