Every new year is a time for optimism and celebration. The start of another century and millennium amplifies these hopes and aspirations one thousandfold. Canada Post wishes to capture this hope with the stamps of the millennium - a series of poignant, thought-provoking philatelic products to help us remember the places and people with whom we share these cherished times.
These three stamps are available as miniature panes of four stamps, individual souvenir sheet (in the Millenium Keepsale), and on individual OFDCs in a pack of 3. An uncut press sheet featuring the $.46 hologram stamp is also available. Three stamps bid farewell to the second millennium and usher in the third, paying homage to printers, who began producing stamps in the 19th century and now stand poised to take postage into the twenty-first. The 95-cent denomination release presents the dove of peace printed in the classic steel-engraved style of many earlier Canadian stamps. The intricate detail and classic beauty of this unique memento have been achieved with artistry and craftsmanship seldom seen today. As the last Canadian releases of this millennium, these three stamps are unique souvenirs honouring a pivotal moment in world history.
