Canada Post commemorated TD Bank Financial Group's 150th anniversary today with a stamp honouring the Bank's significant contribution to Canada's financial landscape, Canadians and their communities. The 50 cents stamp was unveiled this morning at a special ceremony in Toronto, before several hundred TD Bank employees and community groups the bank supports. Founded before Confederation to serve the banking needs of grain millers and merchants, TD Bank Financial Group (TDBFG) has grown into a global financial services company, helping generations of Canadians achieve their financial goals. The company has also established a solid philanthropic legacy as one of Canada's leading corporate contributors to charity. In 2004, TDBFG donated $24.7 million to over 1,000 Canadian charities with a focus on children's health, education and literacy and the environment. "The history of TD closely mirrors our country's development," says Anne Joynt, President and CEO of Canada Post. "From its start as a bank dedicated to helping farmers, to its current place among the world's leading financial services firms, there are few Canadian institutions that have touched as many people as TD Bank Financial Group. Canada Post is proud to recognize the achievements of this exemplary corporate citizen." "We are tremendously proud to have Canada Post commemorate our 150th Anniversary in this extraordinary way," said Ed Clark, President and CEO of TD Bank Financial Group. "This stamp is a wonderful validation of our place in Canada's history and it pays tribute to our customers, our shareholders, our employees, and the communities we serve - all the people who have created the TD story." The stamp is a collage of layered images from the past and present. Architectural details from a turn-of-the-previous-century TD building blend into the facade of the iconic TD Tower in downtown Toronto. Also depicted are people from various eras, including a TDBFG employee interacting with a customer.
