Unmask this amazing collectible honouring six of the greatest Canadian goaltenders in hockey history. As a special treat, this colourful pane of six permanent domestic stamps includes a tribute to the evolution of goalie equipment.
Canadians have been influential at every position throughout hockey history, whether they be high-scoring forwards, dynamic defencemen, inspirational coaches or important administrators.
These stamps honour six of the influential Canadian-born goalies who helped change the way the position is played, rewriting the NHL record book along the way.
The six featured goalies are all award-winning legends and Stanley Cup champions with Hall of Fame credentials. They are Johnny Bower of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Martin Brodeur of the New Jersey Devils, Ken Dryden and Gump Worsley of the Montreal Canadiens, Tony Esposito of the Chicago Blackhawks and Bernie Parent of the Philadelphia Flyers.
Each stamp features the player’s name and the logo of his main NHL team, along with a central colour image set against a hockey net background. Team logos sit alongside each stamp on a silvery background that includes a net motif.
Set between the the two columns of stamps is the special addition: a tribute to goaltending legend Jacques Plante. It’s a photo of the history-making mask Plante wore against the New York Rangers in 1959. Plante would become the first NHL goalie to use a mask as part of his everyday equipment.

Celebrate the incredible impact Canadian goalies have made on the game of hockey with this official first day cover featuring New Jersey Devils® legend Martin Brodeur.
Canadians have been influential at every position throughout hockey history, whether they be high-scoring forwards, dynamic defencemen, inspirational coaches or important administrators.
It’s between the pipes, however, where Canadians have arguably enjoyed the most success and made the biggest impact. Canadian-born goalies have changed the way the position is played, rewriting the NHL® record book along the way.
An excellent skater and stick-handler, Brodeur is one of only two NHL netminders to score a goal during a playoff game, duplicating a feat first accomplished by Manitoba’s Ron Hextall.
A three-time Stanley Cup® champion and four-time Vezina Trophy winner as top NHL goaltender, Brodeur was part of two gold-medal teams at the Winter Olympics, helping Canada top the podium at the Salt Lake City in 2002 and again on home ice at Vancouver 2010. Brodeur retired in 2015 as the league’s career leader in both victories (691) and shutouts (125).
This official first day cover depicts a full colour image of Brodeur retreating into his crease against an opposing attack. His permanent domestic stamp, a detail of the larger image, is in the upper right. Beneath the stamp, the Devils logo is a pictorial cancellation, while the cancel location is Brodeur’s home town of Montréal, Quebec.

Martin Brodeur
New Jersey Devils® (1991-92 to 2013-14)
St. Louis Blues® (2014-15)
Born May 6, 1972, Brodeur made hockey history with puck-handling prowess so remarkable that lead to “The Brodeur Rule” in 2005-’06, limiting where goalkeepers can handle the puck outside the crease. He won the Calder Memorial Trophy in 1993-94, his first full year as the Devils’ starter, and the Stanley Cup® Championship three times over his career. He is a four-time Vezina Trophy winner, and five-time winner of the William M. Jennings Trophy for the fewest goals against. Brodeur also won two Olympic gold medals with Team Canada in the 2002 and 2010 Winter Olympic Games, and is the only goalie in NHL history with eight 40-win seasons. He is also one of only two goalies to have scored a goal in both the regular season and the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Hailing from Montréal – a city with a reputation for producing great goaltenders – Martin Brodeur played his first NHL game March 26, 1992, as a member of the New Jersey Devils ® . Just 19 years old at the time, he joined the Devils’ lineup fulltime the following year, launching a career that spanned 22 seasons and earned him countless goaltending records – including the most wins of all time (691) and the most minutes played. Brodeur beat some of the longest standing records in the NHL, claiming one of his most impressive titles in 2009, when he topped 103 shutouts – a bar that had been set by the legendary Terry Sawchuk almost four decades earlier. With four Vezina trophies to his name and many other awards, Brodeur has earned his place as one of Canada’s greatest goaltenders. His father, Denis Brodeur, a former goaltender and successful hockey photographer, snapped the image used to create the stamp.
