The booklet contains five pairs of stamps honoring Canadian women who specialize in winter disciplines. Twins Sharon and Shirley Firth were among the first indigenous athletes to represent Canada at the Olympic Winter Games, competing at four consecutive Olympics between 1972 and 1984. Renowned for her aggressive style on the slopes, Greene won gold in giant slalom and silver in slalom at the 1968 Winter Olympic Games in Grenoble, France. A frequent winner on the World Cup circuit and perennial Canadian national champion, Greene was named Canada’s Female Athlete of the 20th century in a 1999 survey of newspaper editors and broadcasters. She has served in the Senate of Canada since 2009.

Nancy Greene put Canada on the map in alpine skiing. She competed at Squaw Valley in 1960, Innsbruck in 1964 and Grenoble in 1968, winning gold and silver medals. Canada’s Female Athlete of the 20th Century, Greene won 17 Canadian titles, 13 World Cup victories and three U.S. Ski Championships.
In depicting this Canadian woman powerhouse in winter sports, Subplot's design team set out to create a look that, according to creative director Roy White, "would celebrate the joy, endurance and dedication that has gone into her illustrious achievements over her career." This stamp features a duotone portrait of the athlete in a moment of celebration, as well as a full-colour, freeze-frame action shot representing a defining moment in her career.
