The only athlete to win multiple medals at both the Winter Olympics and Summer Olympics, Hughes first climbed the podium in 1996 when she claimed two bronze medals in road cycling at the Summer Games in Atlanta. Four speed skating medals earned over a trio of Winter Olympic Games appearances gave Hughes six career medals, matching speed skater Cindy Klassen as the most decorated Olympian in Canadian history. Since 2010, Hughes has worked to raise awareness of mental health issues.

Clara Hughes is the only athlete in history to win multiple medals at both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games. She made six Olympic appearances, winning six medals: one gold, one silver and four bronze – in cycling and speed skating.
In depicting this Canadian woman powerhouse in winter sports, Subplot's design team set out to create a look that, according to creative director Roy White, "would celebrate the joy, endurance and dedication that has gone into her illustrious achievements over her career." This stamp features a duotone portrait of the athlete in a moment of celebration, as well as a full-colour, freeze-frame action shot representing a defining moment in her career.
