Most wild animals usually try to avoid being seen by humans, and may be difficult to sight because of nocturnal habits. But with a little practice, interested observers can learn to recognize signs of their presence. The prickly porcupine uses its quills as natural defence, but it cannot throw them. One may close if you spot a 1½" pebbly looking paw track. Gottschalk + Ash International in Toronto designed these new low-value definitive stamps. The graphic style depicts these small mammals on a split, textured background suggestive of the animals' environment. The colours on the stamps were chosen to be realistic, and yet to allow each stamp to be easily distinguishable.
