Souvenir Sheet of 3 (1 Design)

Quantity Produced - 500,000

In 2018, the U.S. Postal Service® celebrates magic, an art form that holds a special place in American history. Each of the three identical stamps on this souvenir sheet features an effect that mimics a classic illusion. By rotating each stamp, you can see a white rabbit popping out of a black top hat.

"The Art of Magic" and "Forever" and "USA" appear along the bottom of each stamp. “The Art of Magic” runs across the top of the sheet. A version of the stamp, without this effect, appears in the pane of 20 Art of Magic stamps.

Magicians amaze crowds in innumerable ways. Illusions can be broken down into several major categories, including: production, mental phenomena, the defiance of natural laws, vanishing, and transformation.

Production is the act of making an object appear out of thin air. A magician producing a coin from seemingly nothing is a crowd-pleasing staple of many routines. The classic version of the production illusion involves a magician pulling a rabbit out of his or her top hat. Over time, the hat trick has become synonymous with magic itself.

Today, American magicians perform in arenas, theaters, and even backyards. No matter how big or small, a magic show will always inspire wonder.

Art director Greg Breeding designed the stamp and Jay Fletcher created the illustration and served as the typographer.

The Art of Magic stamps are being issued as Forever® stamps. These Forever stamps are always equal in value to the current First-Class Mail® one-ounce price.
