On June 28 2013, in Ashland, Virginia, at the Bass Pro Shop, the U.S. Department of the Interior will issue the $5 Junior Duck stamp for the 2013–2014 waterfowl hunting season. The stamp will go on sale nationwide June 28, 2013.
Duck stamps are valid for hunting permits but Junior Duck stamps are not. Neither are valid for postage.
The Junior Duck Stamp is a pictorial stamp produced by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to recognize the conservation efforts of young people and support environmental and conservation education programs in the United States. The art competition is the culmination of students' study of waterfowl and wetlands conservation in the classroom, homeschool, or non-formal education setting, often using the Junior Duck Stamp Program educational curriculum.
Madison Grimm was the artist behind this stamp.
Madison Grimm was born in Ohio and lives in South Dakota. From a very young age, Madison showed a great deal of interest in the work of her father, wildlife artist Adam Grimm (winner of the 2000 and 2013 Federal Duck Stamp contests), as well as in nature itself. Madison is currently completing the first grade as a home-schooled student. She excels at her favorite subjects: religion, math, reading and science. Madison has spent ample time studying the various species of North American waterfowl, and has recently taken an interest in identifying songbirds as well.
