The Department issued a 4-cent stamp marking the 25th anniversary of the National Apprenticeship Act, and honoring the National Apprenticeship Training Program, on August 31, 1962, through the Washington, D.C., post office.
Depicted in the design is a gnarled hand offering a micrometer to an outstretched young hand. In his design, New York City artist Robert Geissmann used a micrometer—the instrument of the journeyman machinist—to symbolize the transfer of skill.
