The Department issued an 8-cent regular postage stamp portraying General of the Armies John J. Pershing at New York, N.Y., on November 17, 1961. The issue ultimately replaced the 8-cent Statue of Liberty design in the regular series.
General Pershing is portrayed in full uniform with four stars on the shoulder; though permitted to wear five, he never wore more than four. The stamp is printed in khaki on the Cottrell presses and issued in panes of 100.
