The Department issued a 5-cent postage stamp commemorating the 300th anniversary of the granting of the Carolina Charter through the Edenton, N.C., post office on April 6, 1963.
The design is based on a photograph of the first page of the Charter against a background of red velvet. The lettering, in deep brown, is similar to that on the original Charter, which is now in the Hall of History in Raleigh, North Carolina. This Charter is historically significant because it was a link for the colonies to such basic human rights documents as the Magna Carta.
