The Department issued the 5-cent stamp marking the 150th anniversary of Indiana's admission to the Union on April 16, 1966, at Corydon, Indiana, the State's first capital.
The stamp was based on a commemorative seal designed by Paul Wehr of Indianapolis for the sesquicentennial observance. Indiana's status as the 19th State was symbolized by a cluster of brown stars; the color arrangement required two passes through the press, yielding two plate numbers on each pane.
